While on a recent family trip to Fiji in August I was struck by some of the different building standards I observed. We can at times, feel like some building standards are strict and slow things down. But long-term the driver behind these standards is to ensure our homes are fit for purpose and safe. Here in NZ, we have some great construction systems in place and something we can take confidence in when building or renovating. I came home with a new appreciation for our approach and the work that we do.

We have seen our fair share of challenges over the last few years with rising interest rates, the cost-of-living and material increases. So, it’s good to see some stabilising of costs after a season of high inflation on materials. This is enabling us to provide more certainty with our pricing to our clients over the course of the project. So, if you are thinking of starting that project give me a call to let us quote the job.

JCC Build is privileged to be working on a large maintenance project at Te Papa o Rotu Marae. Understanding the history and significance of this site, whilst working with the hapū has been a great cultural experience for us all.

Ngā mihi
JCC Build is working with the Te Papa o Rotu hapū to undertake much needed maintenance work of the main wharenui (ancestral meeting house).

The wharenui is the centre piece and most sacred building on the marae. A place of great spiritual significance for the whanau who see the building as a living part of who they are as a people.

We were privileged to be welcomed onto the marae to start the project with a karanga, and whakamoe whare, a special ceremony which was moving as they put the wharenui to sleep so work could commence.

As the cladding was removed from the building the whānau were moved by the fact that their ancestors had built the structure, giving honour and acknowledging them.

The wharenui will be given new life with new exterior cladding, new roof, rewire, insulation, painting and new windows, including a new front door with duplication of the original waitohu.

Milton Ngaruhe Chair of the marae said “I can say that we are very happy with the no surprises approach where we’ve been consulted at every step. We are pleased with the care and respect being shown by the JCC team”.

With the wharenui now asleep the work has begun.
We have gained a fresh appreciation of how this building will bless many people in the future.
One of the most impacting design features of our homes is the exterior.

You will often hear real estate agents talk about street appeal and the first impressions of a property before anyone even walks through the front door.

But just like interiors, exteriors design trends come and go. So we thought we would profile four key styles that are making 2023 headlines
  • Scandinavian 403
  • Coastal Modern 405
  • Barn Style 503
  • Mid Century 504
Our concept home plans on the website feature all of these designs and more

JCC Build are registered Master Builders, but what does it really mean for you and your project? Building or renovating is a huge investment so making sure you have confidence in a team that can make that happen is critical. The benefits that choosing a Registered Master Builder are significant.Below are just a few.

1.Robust membership criteria required.
It’s a rigorous series of assessments and evaluation required to meet the Master Builder criteria. They are looking at trade and professional qualifications, the way you manage your business on site and experience. References and interviews with previous clients are undertaken. There is a financial element to the criteria to ensure your business is run well with references from banks, accountants, and suppliers. There is also a regular re-certification and review of workmanship.

2.Master Build Guarantee
Probably the most known part of this body is the 10 Year Guarantee. This covers materials and workmanship, loss of deposit and non-completion. Master Builders also need to have insurance in place to protect not only themselves but their clients in case anything goes wrong.

3.Quality Workmanship
All Master Builders are committed to delivering high quality workmanship that ensures it meets industry standards and, in some cases, going above these standards. This gives you the confidence to know that you build is high quality and compliant.

4.Resources and advice
The organisation has a wealth of knowledge and experience and as a result Master Builders can access resources and information, keeping themselves up to date with industry best practise and compliance.
